Lead Data Quality Engineer
Job Description
The Chief Directorate Department at Emirates Airlines drives strategic planning, operational excellence, and innovation across divisions.
As a Data Quality & Automation Engineering Lead, you will lead a team of engineers in Enterprise Data & Analytics, designing and implementing data quality platforms, automating data validation, and supporting analytics solutions. You will promote best practices, guide technical development, and ensure trustworthy data assets for Emirates Airlines and Emirates Group businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a team of engineers to implement data quality and automation practices.
Collaborate with product owners, analysts, software engineers, and architects to refine requirements and acceptance tests.
Drive technical design, ensuring quality features are incorporated into solutions.
Guide engineers in problem-solving across complex data pipelines; perform code reviews and debugging.
Build and enhance automated tests, data quality rules, and platforms for data observability.
Advocate for and participate in data analysis activities: source system identification, data profiling, metadata collection, and source-to-target mapping.
Support updates to data inventories, registries, and metadata, following Data Governance standards.
Lead adoption of quality practices and culture within the team.
Requirements
Experience: 5+ years in IT Data Engineering focusing on quality & automation.
Leadership: Proven experience leading engineers, building culture around quality, and developing teams.
Education: Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computational Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering; specialization in Data & Analytics (Data Warehousing, Data Science, BI) preferred.
Technical Skills:
4+ years testing, automation, and support in analytics applications (Data Lake, Data Warehouse).
Expertise in building data quality platforms and automated checks (CI & production).
Proficient in Scala or Python; strong SQL skills.
Familiarity with batch & real-time data ingestion/integration, complex pipelines, and Big Data technologies.
Knowledge of data architecture: data modelling, Big Data storage, dimensional modelling.
Soft Skills: Mentorship, collaboration, cross-functional communication, problem-solving, self-starter, team player.
Airline Experience: Nice-to-have; Spark exposure highly desirable.
Key Technologies/Tools: Spark, Hadoop (HDFS, Hive, HBase, Oozie), Airflow, Apache Nifi, Azure (ADLS, Databricks, Data Factory), Elasticsearch, AVRO / PARQUET, Snowflake, Data Vault 2.0, MicroStrategy, Power BI, SnapLogic, TIBCO, Kafka, CI/CD (GIT, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, Docker, SonarQube, Gatling).
