Animal Care Specialist | MAF Entertainment | Snow Dome
ROLE SUMMARY
The Animal Care Specialist supports the daily care, husbandry, and training of the animal collection. This role is responsible for maintaining exhibit areas, preparing diets and feeding routines, and ensuring presentation areas are properly set up and maintained to deliver safe, engaging, and educational guest experiences
Key Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES (Role Profile)
Monitor and maintain animal habitats, including air quality and water quality standards.
Support daily animal encounters and educational programs to enhance guest experiences.
Present animals in a professional, interactive, and educational way.
Observe animals closely and identify any signs of stress, illness, or behavioral changes.
Record all animal-related data accurately using the assigned database/system.
Maintain high hygiene standards across all animal areas, ensuring they remain clean and free from bacterial/fungal growth.
Participate in regular scuba diving maintenance activities for exhibit upkeep when required.
Work flexible schedules based on business needs, including opening/mid/closing shifts, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
Minimum 2 years of animal training experience, preferably with marine animals.
Experience working in a zoo or aquarium environment handling:
exhibit maintenance
food preparation
guest interaction programs
Familiarity with implementing AZA zoo and aquarium standards and operational procedures.
Open Water Dive Certificate is required.
Basic understanding of animal training methods and welfare measurement practices
