JOB TITLE
Animal Care Apprentice | MAF Entertainment | Snow Dome
ROLE SUMMARY
The Animal Care Apprentice supports the Animal Care & Welfare team in daily animal care routines, including feeding, cleaning, habitat maintenance, and husbandry activities. This role also assists in maintaining smooth daily operations and ensuring safety across the Aquarium, Encounter, and March areas—while consistently delivering excellent guest service.
Key Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES (Role Profile)
Support daily animal care tasks such as feeding, basic training, and monitoring health and behavior.
Assist during public demonstrations and guest interactions, ensuring safety for both animals and visitors.
Maintain animal habitats and display areas, ensuring cleanliness, hygiene, and proper setup.
Prepare animal diets and follow feeding schedules under senior team supervision.
Monitor stock and inventory levels, reporting shortages or issues to the senior staff.
Participate in guest encounters, safety briefings, and operational activities under guidance.
Communicate confidently with guests, offering educational and enjoyable experiences.
Deliver short public presentations that inspire guests to care for animals and the environment.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
Certificate/Diploma in Animal Care (preferred) or equivalent hands-on experience in animal care.
Strong English communication skills (spoken and written) with confidence in front of guests.
Basic computer skills with Microsoft Word and Excel for reporting/documentation.
Physically fit to:
lift up to 50 lbs
stand/walk for extended periods
work in cold environments
Basic understanding of animal behavior, handling, and welfare practices.
Knowledge of Life Support Systems (LSS) and general safety procedures is an advantage.
